Online Counseling FAQ

  • Will my insurance cover online or phone therapy sessions?
    • While I am out of network with insurance carriers, many insurance companies will reimburse a percentage for out of network providers of online therapy. Click here to find out which questions to ask to see if you can get reimbursement for online therapy at Hazel Tree Counseling. Insurance does not typically cover phone therapy.
  • How does it work and what would I need to have at my home/office in order to do it?
    • We either meet over a Skype-like system (HIPPA compliant Zoom) or chat on the phone.
    • You would need to have: 
      1. Privacy
      2. A reliable internet connection or good phone service
      3. Some sort of screen (smartphone, tablet or computer) or a phone for phone sessions
  • What are some benefits of meeting online or via phone vs. meeting in person?
    • Scheduling flexibility & Time-Saving – There is no commute for online and phone therapy which can save you anywhere from a small to a large amount of time depending on where you live. Some clients are even able to do their sessions from the privacy of their work office over a lunch hour.
    • Increased anonymity and access - Asheville can be a small town! With online and phone therapy, you don’t have to worry about running into people you know in the waiting room. 
    • ​Comfort - With online and phone therapy, we can meet from the comfort of your own home. You can have your beloved pets nearby and even do therapy in your pajamas if you are so inclined.
    • Exercise - When we meet over the phone, you can walk and talk and get a boost of endorphins while getting your therapy fix. Double win!
